Buddi is a personal finance and budgeting program, aimed at those who have little or no financial background. In making this software, I have attempted to make things as simple as possible, while still retaining enough functions to satisfy most home users.
Buddi is released as Open Source Software. You can download it for free, with no disabled features and no time limit. If you find that you like it, and that it has helped you to organize your finances, I would greatly appreciate a small donation via the link at the bottom of the page. I have spent thousands of hours of my own time perfecting Buddi - while I am not doing this for the money, I do need to support myself and my family, and every little bit helps.
Buddi will run on almost any computer which has a Java virtual machine installed (Java 1.6 or higher is required for current versions of Buddi; see the Download page for details). This can include Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux, and many other operating systems.
Buddi is currently available in multiple languages. If you are interested in translating to another language, feel free to do so! I would greatly appreciate it if you also sent me the translated file once you are finished. For more details, please see the translations page.
Buddi is released under the GNU General Public License. Since Buddi is released as Open Source Software, everyone has free access to the source code (available for download from the SourceForge project page). This gives you the ability to modify the program if you want it to work a little differently, or if you want to add some new features. Incompatibilities with OS X Big Sur
There have been reports that Buddi does not work on Mac OS X Big Sur. It is recommended that you do not upgrade if you require Buddi. I don't currently have access to a Big Sur machine for testing / troubleshooting, so I don't expect that this will change in the near future. If you have technical experience with running Java applications on Big Sur and are willing to help out, please let me know.
Another option may be to move over to Buddi Live. This is a web application which is accessible from all modern browsers, including mobile browsers. You can export your existing Buddi data (via File -> Export -> Export Buddi Live Data' and import it into Buddi Live.
Buddi 3.4.1.16 Released (April 3 2019)

Buddi 3.4.1.14 Released (January 14 2016)
A user had encountered a bug in the Income and Expenses report which caused split transactions with specific criteria to not sum properly. 3.4.1.14 is a release to fix this bug. It is recommended that all users upgrade to this version.
Buddi Live Public Beta (April 20 2013)

I am happy to announce the public beta version of Buddi Live is now available. In this case, Beta software means that it is not yet feature complete, and there are likely bugs, but the data itself should be stable enough for real-life use (and in fact my own budget has been exclusively on Buddi Live for the past week or so). For those of you who are Buddi Desktop users and have existing data there, the most recent version of Buddi Desktop (3.4.1.7) has been released last week, and includes an export option to generate the Buddi Live data (.json) format. You can upload this file to Buddi Live using System -> Restore.
As this is still beta software, I would strongly recommend that you backup your data after each session; I don't anticipate problems which could lose data, but it is always a possibility. You can backup by clicking System -> Backup, and keeping the resulting Backup.json file in a safe place.
Buddi 3.4 branch released (June 10 2010)
I am pleased to announce the Buddi 3.4 branch, the culmination of a year and a half of work. Included are the ability to use split transactions, improved interface for budgeting, and many bug fixes.
Accounting is terribly important when it comes to your monthly budgets. Whether they are personal expenditures or business related, you have to keep track of all the money that you spend at all times. This is even more important to note when you have a Mac since you probably have enough money to store or invest since professionals tend to lean more towards these powerful devices. Probably the only problem that you may experience though is that sometimes you can’t find the right piece of software for your financial problem. There is no reason to fret though, as there is tons of budgeting software for Mac that you can use to help you out with your issues.

iCash SE is an app openly available for purchase by Mac users at the low price of $30. It features a couple of standard aspects in accounting, like simple budgets and tracking where your money is. However, it is also expansive enough for small businesses as it can also track payrolls and income streams. You can also set certain targets with the help of this program and will surely aid you in allocating all your funds.

If you’re not too keen on a program that can be used by small business because all you want is concise tracking of your personal finances, then Squirrel is the choice for you. It’s fairly straightforward in that it has budgeting tables but it also mixes it up by adding on a schedule for transactions that you need done in a short span of time. Couple that with progress reports to set your goals in saving, and you get a pretty powerful personal finance app.

This program has a very descriptive title as it tells you which part of your finances it covers really well. This program is well balanced, and that should speak volumes about it. Instead of concentrating on one aspect, it takes all of them and creates a reasonable program which is simple enough to use, but has enough depth to keep your finances, savings, and investments well in check. Couple that with a free app on both the iPad and the iPhone, and you get a program that is very diverse and can jump over to your other devices easily.
5. Moneywhiz
Moneywhiz is the first on this list to feature a very in depth look at your finances. It reaches back through your financial history and records each part of it so that you have hindsight at what you did right, and what you did very wrong when dealing with your money. Boasting a full plethora of features, there is no doubt that this program is great. The only downfall is that it carries a pretty substantial price tag and is only located on the iPad and iPhone.

While cashculator is a fairly simple app, there is a reason why it is here on the upper half of the list. This program takes a different approach to your finances and doesn’t necessarily fall into the norms within this list. You see, the program only asks two things of you to work; your income and your expenses. This program is not for those with little experience in accounting. However, it is suitable for those who have a lot of money stored away in different locations.
